We would like to make customers aware of a network-related issue that may affect streaming performance for some users.
After additional testing and customer feedback, we have identified that some IPTV applications, media players, and streaming systems may not perform optimally when operating over IPv6 connections. In some cases, this can result in buffering, freezing, playback interruptions, or inconsistent channel performance.
Common Symptoms
- Frequent buffering
- Channels freezing or stopping unexpectedly
- Playback interruptions
- Streams that continuously reconnect
- Inconsistent streaming quality across multiple channels
How to Check if You Are Using IPv4 or IPv6
You can check your current public IP address by visiting one of the following websites:
An IPv4 address usually looks like this:
192.168.1.100
IPv4 addresses contain four groups of numbers separated by periods.
An IPv6 address usually looks like this:
2600:1700:abcd:1234:5678:90ab:cdef:1234
IPv6 addresses contain multiple groups of letters and numbers separated by colons.
If your IP address contains several groups separated by colons, you are likely seeing IPv6. If your address contains four number groups separated by periods, you are likely seeing IPv4.
Recommended Troubleshooting Steps
- Switch your modem or router to IPv4 mode, if supported.
- Disable IPv6 within your router settings, if permitted by your ISP.
- Connect using a quality VPN service.
- Restart your streaming device after making changes.
- Test the service again to compare performance.
Many customers have reported noticeable improvements in stability and playback quality after switching from IPv6 back to IPv4.
IPv6 is not the cause of every buffering or playback issue. However, it should be considered as part of the troubleshooting process when persistent buffering, freezing, or playback instability occurs.
We strongly recommend using a quality VPN connection whenever possible to improve routing, privacy, and overall streaming reliability.
